What's the Problem?
Many local badminton clubs regularly organize weekly tournaments for their community.
However, most of these clubs still rely on manual or semi-digital methods (like spreadsheets or paper brackets) to organize matches, track players, and update scores. This process is time-consuming, prone to errors, and lacks the real-time engagement and efficiency needed to manage fast-paced tournaments. Furthermore there is no easy way to review this historical data and no way to share this well with the community.

HOW MIGHT WE…
make organizing and experiencing a badminton tournament seamless and stress-free?
Research
We started by gaining a deep understanding of users—their needs, pain points, and goals—to uncover challenges that may not be immediately apparent. This approach ensures the design is not only functional but also resonates with users emotionally. To guide the rest of the design process, we used the user persona, Gary, for reference.
Meet Gary. He is the manager for the Bellevue Badminton Club. He's in charge of organizing the club's weekly knockout-style tournaments, however he has been struggling with this process and has reached out to us for help!

We looked into existing badminton scoring apps.

We discovered that existing apps are unintuitive, lack effective solutions for efficient tournament planning and real-time scorekeeping, and suffer from poor visual design.
