Classly
Project Overview
Pottery studio owners using Classly to manage their businesses expressed a need for an "add-ons" feature to offer optional products—like tools or materials—as additional purchases during course enrollment. I designed this feature to streamline the customer purchasing experience, increase revenue opportunities for studio owners, and improve operational efficiency through simplified sales tracking.

Background
Classly is a scheduling platform designed specifically for pottery studios.
Classly offers a solution to manage course bookings, rosters, and waitlists. The platform provides an intuitive dashboard that simplifies studio operations, making it easy for owners to automate administrative tasks and improve their workflow.
What's the Problem?
Pottery studios that offer multi-week courses often also provide optional add-ons, such as extra open studio time or specialized materials like porcelain that students can purchase.
Currently, many studio owners have been using separate methods, such as interest forms, to track the purchase of these add-ons. However, this process has proven to be cumbersome, requiring extra work and leading to inefficiencies and confusion. It’s become a pain point for many of our clients. To streamline this, we aim to provide studio owners with an easy way to offer and manage these "add-ons" directly alongside course registrations, simplifying the process and reducing administrative burden.

HOW MIGHT WE…
design and integrate an 'add-ons' feature into Classly that enables studios to offer additional products for students to purchase during course registration?
Brainstorming, Designing, and Creating

USER FINDINGS
This project was particularly challenging because it required designing for two distinct user groups: pottery student owners, who use our platform to manage their websites, and pottery students, who interact with those websites to enroll in classes. Balancing the needs, expectations, and technical capabilities of both audiences added significant complexity to the design process.
To ensure my decisions were grounded in user needs, I developed detailed user personas. These helped clarify goals, pain points, and behaviors for each group, allowing me to create a more intuitive and effective experience for all users.

COMPARATIVE ANALYsis
As part of my design process, I conducted a comparative analysis to explore how other products—both within and outside the pottery education space—approach similar problems. This allowed me to identify common interaction patterns, usability best practices, and innovative features that could inform my design decisions.
WIREFRAMING
I started with hand-drawn sketches, then quickly developed realistic wireframes by incorporating screenshots of our existing product and editing them in Figma.
This approach enabled me to develop functional mockups that closely aligned with the final design, while also streamlining the iteration process. I held weekly meetings where I presented my mockups, explained my design choices, gathered feedback, and refined the designs for the following week based on the input I received.

PROTOTYPE
New but familiar.
The payment flow maintained a familiar structure for users, with the added option to purchase an additional product seamlessly integrated.
For studio owners, we preserved the intuitive experience while introducing a dedicated section for managing add-ons, keeping things organized without disrupting existing workflows.
Results & Takeaways
Our MVP helped studio owners to save time, boost sales, and streamline their operations.
This project was an incredibly rewarding experience. What initially seemed like a straightforward design challenge revealed unexpected complexity beneath the surface. While our MVP wasn’t flawless, it gave us valuable insights and highlighted clear opportunities for future improvement.
It was deeply satisfying to present my work and hear from our clients that I had successfully addressed their challenges with a thoughtful solution.
